Traeth Lligwy Trip Notes

Traeth Lligwy

Nestled in a secluded bay on the East Coast of Anglesey is the beautiful beach of Lligwy. With its stunning mile of soft golden sand and shallow waters it’s a swim not to be missed. The beach is in a prime location, just a stone throw away from the Martine village of Moelfre and right on the path of Anglesey’s renowned coastal walk.

Shaped as a horseshoe this bay, is surrounded with limestone rocks and agricultural farmland, no surprise that this is a perfect location for our swim. This unspoilt beach has been a winner of the seaside award since 2004 and is well known for its abundant variety of wildlife, including sightings of dolphins swimming through the majestical waters, this is a nature lovers paradise.

Even the banks of the beach are just as special, now being reorganised as home to a new plant, called Equisetrun x robertsii. Which was only discovered in 2000 and has never been seen anywhere else in the world, something truly spectacular.

Your swim will take you along the broad sandy bay of Lligwy and into neighbouring covers. Allowing you to explore the nooks and crannies of the limestone rock and see close up the different varieties of wildlife the bay has to offer.

As you swim through the majestical water, looking down over the bay’s large expanse of golden sands. You will be gazing down at the shapes left by the atmospheric flow, better known as the wavy sea pattern. You can’t help but be hypnotised by your surrounds, in this spectacular location of outstanding natural beauty.

Swimming awareness

Your safety is of the utmost importance to Aqua Adventure Swims. In the event of adverse weather conditions at any of our swimming locations, we many need to adapt our itinerary on the day.

In the unlikely event that a swim cannot go ahead as its deemed unsafe, Aqua Adventure Swims will do their very best to re-run the swim. There is no guarantee that this can be rescheduled within the same year of booking, refunds in this instance will be provided. For more information on refunds please email us.

Swimming in the open sea amongst natural wildlife is a unique experience, but you may come across certain marine wildlife such as jellyfish, weever fish and coral from time to time. Wetsuits, gloves and neoprene boots will prevent your body from being stung by jellyfish and the safety crew will be keeping a watchfully eye out, to alert you and guide you in a different direction. If you are stung by a jellyfish and are un-able to carry on swimming, you will never be far from an escort boat, where one of the team will be able to treat the affected area immediately.

If you suffer from Anaphylaxis or any other allergic reactions it is important to inform us at the time of the booking.
